- 2 tablespoons butter
- 2 tablespoons flour
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 2 cups milk
- 2 cups, grated cheddar cheese
- 6, sliced potatoes
- 1/4 cup bread crumbs

Preheat oven to 350F
Step 2
Peel and slice potatoes into thin slices. Place into large sauce pan, cover with water, add a bit of salt and bring to a boil. Boil for about 5 minutes. Drain and place into a 13x9 baking dish.
Step 3
In medium sauce pan melt butter. Add flour, salt, and pepper, mixing well. Cook until mixture is bubbly.
Step 4
Slowly add milk, a little at a time, smoothing mixture after adding milk, to avoid lumps. Bring to a boil, and cook until mixture begins to thicken, stirring constantly.
Step 5
Stir in 1 1/2 cups of the grated cheese, stirring well, until cheese is melted. Pour over partially cooked potatoes.
Step 6
Bake uncovered for 45 minutes.
Step 7
Mix remaining cheese with bread crumbs until crumbly. Cover potatoes with crumb mixture in the last 15 minutes of baking. Bake until golden brown and potatoes are tender. Allow potatoes to set for 5 minutes before serving.
