Smooth and creamy cheese sauce ideal for vegetables like broccoli and asparagus.

3 tablespoons butter
3 tablespoons flour
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon black pepper
1 1/2 cups milk
1 cup cheddar cheese, grated
Melt butter in small saucepan. Remove from heat and stir in flour, salt, and pepper.
Gradually add milk while stirring. Cook over low heat, stirring constantly, until thickened.
Cook additional 5 minutes before adding cheese. Stir until smooth and creamy.
