Classic apple pie with sweet apples in a sugary glaze, encased in a flaky, buttery crust.

2 cups flour (crust)
1 teaspoon salt (crust)
2/3 cup plus 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, softened
5 tablespoons cold water
2/3 cup sugar (filling)
1/4 cup flour (filling)
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
pinch salt (filling)
8 apples, sliced
2 tablespoons butter (topping)
Mix butter, salt, and flour until crumbly. Add cold water until dough forms.
Form two balls. Roll each out for bottom and top crusts.
Preheat oven to 425°F.
Peel, core, and slice apples. Mix with flour, cinnamon, nutmeg, salt, and sugar.
Pour into bottom crust. Add butter chunks. Put on top crust, seal edges, cut slits.
Bake for 50 minutes. Remove foil from edges in last 10-20 minutes. Cool before serving.
