Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 2 cups orange juice
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 20 ounces, crushed pineapple in juice
  • 2 teaspoons orange zest

How To9 Steps

Step 1

Finely grate 2 oranges to get 2 teaspoons orange zest.

Step 2

Add orange zest and sugar to blender, or food processor, blend well.

Step 3

In sauce pan, add zesty sugar, and water. Bring to a boil, and simmer until sugar is dissolved, and starts to thicken. Set aside.

Step 4

In food processor, or blender, add your pineapple in juice, and blend well. Be sure to scrape side of blender. Pour into large bowl.

Step 5

If using fresh oranges, roll each orange on counter, cut in half, remove seeds, and squeeze. You need 2 cups of juice, about 6 oranges. Can also use pre-made juice.

Step 6

Add orange juice, and lemon juice to the pineapple juice, mix well. Stir in your sugar orange syrup, and mix well.

Step 7

Pour into freezer safe container, cover and freeze until firm.

Step 8

Once firm take out of freezer, and either process in food processor, or mix well with a hand mixer. You may need to do this a couple of times.

Step 9

Once you are happy with the texture, should be smooth, a lot like ice cream. Serve in a bowl, and enjoy on those hot summer days.
